VIRGINIA BEACH -- Bond was set today at $10,000 for Deborah J. Everett, the 28-year-old Point O'View physical education teacher who is charged with rape and sodomy of an 11-year-old.

In testimony before Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court Judge Woodrow Lewis, a police detective said the boy ``came onto her and she gave in.''

Authorities said the boy, now 12, is roughly 6 feet tall.

The incidents happened sometime between Aug. 1, 2001, and Nov. 20, 2001, while Everett was helping the boy with school work at her home, according to testimony.

Police found out about the incidents when the boy was questioned Nov. 21 by police on another matter.

Everett previously had dated the boy's father, police said.

She has been suspended without pay from the Beach school system and has been recommended for termination.

On Monday, the judge ordered that she have no contact with children.

Her ex-husband, Chris Everett, said outside of court that an emergency hearing is scheduled for Tuesday to determine custody of their 3-year-old daughter.

Deborah Everett had been given custody since their divorce in 1999, Chris Everett said. Since his ex-wife's arrest last week, however, the child has been living with Deborah Everett's sister in the area, he said.
