Killer nanny to be a lawyer in the U.K.
LONDON, Aug. 10, 2003 (UPI) --The Washington Times: United Press International
The British nanny convicted of killing a Boston infant five years ago is poised to become a lawyer in England.
Louise Woodward was sentenced to life in prison for the 1997 murder of 8-month-old Matthew Eappen but the charge was reduced on appeal to involuntary manslaughter. She returned to England after spending 279 days in prison.
Woodward graduated from South Bank University with a law degree last year and defeated hundreds of others to win a place on the legal practice course at Manchester Metropolitan University, the Independent reported.
The Law Society, which regulates law firms in England and Wales, has set up a special committee to meet in the next few weeks and is expected to decide in favor of Woodward's application, the Independent said. Such rulings have been rare.
If given the go-ahead by the committee, Woodward would take her final bar exams next year.
