Incoming: A media onslaught

Thursday, November 6th, 2003

The release of "I Am a Soldier, Too: The Jessica Lynch Story" on Tuesday - Veterans Day - will be the main event in a media parade for the former POW.

The movie "Saving Jessica Lynch" will air Sunday on NBC.

Though Lynch did not cooperate, the film is based in part on the recollections of Mohammed Odeh Al Rehaief, the Iraqi credited with telling U.S. soldiers where to find her.

Vanity Fair and Glamour both were allowed to photograph Lynch for their current issues but not to interview her.

Diane Sawyer won the big prize - Lynch's first interview, which will air Tuesday in a special edition of ABC's "Primetime."

NBC's "Today" show got second best, a two-part interview next Wednesday and Thursday, followed by Lynch's visit to CBS' "The Late Show With David Letterman" on Nov. 14.

The press offensive is built around Tuesday's release of the book, published by Alfred Knopf and written with the help of Rick Bragg. Knopf is printing 500,000 copies and Lynch and Bragg will split a $1 million advance.
