Like the gradual erosion that created the Grand Canyon, the flashing torrents and hot winds of antipatriarchal rhetoric have now created great chasms of disparity in the treatment of men in the civil courts, and fathers in the family courts of American jurisprudence.

From charges of harrassment, to abuse, to ineligibility for parenthood, the underlying presumptions of equality before the law have given way to the presumption that all men are potential, if not actual rapists, batterers and pedophiles; and for this must be subjected to a redistribution of their wealth and/or earning capacity.

Men are, after all, when once brought before the bar, non-rebuttable cads and near certain perjurors. Ironically, it is this gaseous mythology which has both hoisted the feminists with their own petard - and preserved the reign of that paragon of feminist mythology, William J. (everybody does it) Clinton.

The gender war - some war - has been characterized by one-sided vitriolic verbal assaults on the character of men as a class of people; culminating in the Houses of Congress - mostly white males - passing one edict after another. This, in an attempt to ward off the fierce forces of the "gentler sex". And in a final grand capitulation, these lions from OZ have erected the great unconstitutional testament to male patriarchal dominance - The Violence Against Women Act.

That this is a clearly unconstitutional piece of legislation on its face, is glaringly obvious. Who else but men (as a class) must be constrained from violating women (as a class), (i.e., Who else is there to be violent-against-women? Deer and antelope?)

Having established the barbaric predilections of the male class, the great Congressional OZians have moved into other areas to hobble these testosteronians. Most recently, they have federalized Child Support Collection.

So what, you say?

Well, first; this federalized paternalism toward women and mothers usurps and supplants what was previously within the domain of the individual states. Secondly; what may have been, under state auspices, minor infractions or misdemeanors have now, because they are under federal auspices, graduated to the class of felonies. And finally; the reclassification as felony, and its attendant conviction, removes from these rabid miscreants a number of citizenship rights - such as voting and bearing arms.

So, what else? There are libraries full of legitimate scientific studies that establish unequivocally that women and men are equally violent toward each other; that women are in the majority, especially single-mothers, in perpetrating child abuse; and that women outnumber men two or three to one in originating divorce. None the less, the communal-cultural-knee-jerk assumes the male implication when violence or irresponsibility are mentioned within the context of women and children.

Between the vitriolic erosion of this rhetoric and the sedimentation of legislative/judicial edicts, the criminalization of the class of men is near complete. Civility - that pariarchal artifact - has been nearly eradicated. Men may act according to cultural expectations, and women may prosecute to the quite full extent of the law.

Civility a patriarchal artifact?, you question. According to Webster's, the synonym for civility is Chivalry. Chivalry and Chivalrous are defined as those previously male-attributed qualities and aspirations "marked by honor, generosity, and courtesy; marked by gracious courtesy, and high-minded consideration, especially to women."
