Fordyce (AP) -
The nursing assistants, 17-year-old Shermika Rainey and 44-year-old Gayla Wilson, are each charged with a felony count of adult abuse. They work at Dallas County Nursing Home. Both were ordered held on 100-thousand dollars bond today.
The pair are accused in the beating of 81-year-old Willie Mae Ryan on July 30th. Ryan is in the critical care unit at Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff. If convicted, each suspect faces five to 20 years in prison. In an affidavit, investigators say Wilson told Rainey she was tired of Ryan being disrespectful and motioned the teenager into the elderly woman's room. The affidavit says Rainey held Ryan while Wilson beat the victim with brass knuckles.
