B'klyn doc charged in mexican boy-sex trysts

May 7, 2003

-- A 56-year-old former pediatrician was charged yesterday with helping to financially support a Mexican guesthouse where men were matched with young boys.

Stefan Irving of Brooklyn traveled to Acapulco in May 1998 to engage in a sex act with one or more juveniles, according to a criminal complaint filed in Manhattan federal court.

Irving, who most recently was an office worker, was held pending a court appearance today. His lawyer declined to comment.

The government said Irving was charged after a former manager for a guesthouse known as Castillo Vista del Mar provided details about the ex-doctor and his trips to Mexico and after several children identified his photograph.

The arrest stemmed from a nationwide investigation that began in 1996 to investigate individuals suspected of traveling to Mexico to engage in sexual acts with children.
